Driver crashes after seeing a tiny spider

Every human being has something they fear. Some are afraid of heights, and others run away the second they see a bug or spider.

A phobia, or an extremeirrational aversion to something, cannot be explained with mere logic. These fears come from very complex parts of the mind, influenced by culture, past experiences, religion, emotions, and much more. And they can sometimes make our reactions a bit excessive.

However, I think the woman from today’s story takes the cake – she drove off the road after seeing a tiny spider inside her car, reports the New York Post.

Arachnophobia, or the fear of spiders, is one of the most common phobias out there. Interestingly, there is a logical explanation for why we naturally fear spiders.

Thousands of years ago, humans didn’t have the means to differentiate which spiders were poisonous and which were not. So we became cautious of all of them instinctively to avoid any danger.

In other words, it’s in our DNA to fear these little eight-legged devils. Our subconscious classifies spiders as dangerous, even though nowadays it’s hard to come across any poisonous type.

Tiny spider on her seat

However, it can be difficult to control your phobia when you see a spider, even if the spider is not dangerous.

A woman from New York experienced this. As when she was out driving on Silver Spur Road, in the town of Cairo, she suddenly noticed an un-welcomed passenger.

The spider climbed onto her seat, causing the woman to lose control of her car and drive off the road.

Had to call an ambulance

The woman collided and injured her leg so severely that she had to call 911. When the police arrived at the scene, they talked to the woman, who admitted that the crash was due to a small spider.

The local police stated:

“After investigating today’s crash on Silver Spur Road, we feel it necessary to bring up a contributing factor that is not covered too often. It is believed that the vehicle operator noticed a SPIDER in the driver’s area with her as she was driving. The operator panicked and crashed, suffering a leg injury from the crash. We know that it is easier for some drivers than others, but PLEASE try to teach new drivers and yourself to overcome the fear and pull over to a safe place. Lives depend on it.” they wrote on their Facebook page.
