Vegetarian ate one burger and got so obsessed she became a butcher

Tammi Jonas, a former devoted vegetarian, totally changed her lifestyle when she was pregnant with her third child.

Everything changed for this mother the day she ate a burger with real meat, for the first time in decades – her world was turned upside-down.

At the age of 49, she now eats more meat than she ever did before – and even runs her own pig farm, reports Unilad.

During her early years, Tammi Jonas found out how poorly farms and slaughterhouses treated animals. And from that moment on, she became a full-fledged vegetarian.

The burger that changed everything

This Australian mother, now grandmother, stayed away from meat – until her last pregnancy.

“I was at work one day and just thought: ‘a burger would fix this’. I went back to red meat, so beef and lamb, once a week throughout the pregnancy. It was some years longer before I had any pork or poultry”, she told 10 Daily .

I never thought it was immoral to take an animal’s life for food – I’ve always been comfortable with my place in the food chain, but I thought it was immoral to treat [animals] cruelly, to not allow them to go outside and breathe fresh air and to be confined in crowds in sheds,” Tammi added.

Want animals to have a good life

Her carnivore instincts soon took her to the next level. Together with her husband Stuart, the 49-year-old began contemplating the possibilities of farming and animal husbandry. Focusing on treating the animals in a good and ethically way.

“Some people will draw an ethical line that killing is bad. But I don’t believe that – I don’t think killing an animal for consumption is unethical if it had a good life,” Tammi told the Daily Mail Australia.

She and her husband have been running a family farm for eight years – and yes, this former vegetarian eats more meat than ever before.
