Only 1 in 10 can crack this puzzle: Find out the highest possible number by moving only 2 matches

I try to exercise my brain for at least 10 minutes a day. It doesn’t matter how you do it – the important thing is that you do it! Most of us are just passively looking at our computers and smart phones the whole day – while technology does most of our work for us.

That’s why I think we need brain teasers, now more than ever. Sitting down with a crossword or some other tricky thing can really wake you up and activate your brain.

Puzzles, brainteasers and tricky problems have gotten more and more popular lately. It’s become a trend to challenge your friends; it adds a competitive element and make it more exciting. I think this is a really positive development – exercising your brain is never a bad thing.

Back when I was in school, I had a teacher who would always give us little puzzles and challenges. It was a welcome break from the usual math!

I found this brainteaser earlier today, and I really had to think long and hard on it. It’s not as easy as it looks at first glance – and apparently only 10% get it right on the first try.

So you’ve got to be a real genius to find out the answer!

Challenge your friends

The number 5008 is written out with match sticks. The challenge is to find out the highest possible number by moving only 2 matches.

Can you do it? Try it now!

Caution: spoilers below!

All done? I’ll give you a clue: the key is to increase how many separate numbers there are. You start out with 4 numbers, but you can end up with 6 of them! Take another look and see if you can figure it out!
