Try to solve this math quiz for middle schoolers – without a calculator

Testing yourself with a brain-teaser never hurts, most times it feels like you can think a bit more clearly after solving some puzzles. Of course, you use your brain at work as well, but it’s not quite the same thing as engaging in some logical thinking, without stress.

Try to think back

Recently, a new type of challenge has appeared on the net, although the quizzes themselves are not particularly new.

It’s about good old school mathematics.

Trying this kind of challenge is exciting and fun, especially if it was a bunch of years since you last went to school.

It’s important to really think about it and try to remember those old rules of math your teacher kept writing on the chalkboard many years ago.

In addition, you must exercise your competitive instinct as well, which is always fun.

Can you figure out the solution for this mathematics quiz – without a calculator?

Okay, now onto the challenge itself.

Here’s the answer.

The correct answer is 11.

How do we know that 11 is the right answer?

To begin with, we need to solve the part inside the parenthesis, 12 ÷ 4 + 1, which equals 4.

After that, the problem looks like this: 15 – 1 x 4. So the next step is to calculate the multiplication, that equals 4.

So the problem now is 15 – 4, which totals 11.

The answer is then 11.

Did you get it right? Congratulations!
