Driver crashes car after spotting tiny spider in the passenger seat

Every person has something they fear. For example, some are afraid of heights, and others run away when they see a bug or spider.

A phobia, or an irrational fear of something, cannot be explained with just logic. These fears come from profound and complex parts of the mind depending on our past, culture, emotions, etc. And can make us over-exaggerate our reactions.

However, I think the woman from today’s story takes the cake – she drove off the road after seeing a tiny spider inside her car, reports the New York Post.

Arachnophobia, the fear of arachnids, is one of the most common phobias in the world. But interestingly enough, there is a logical explanation for why most people fear spiders.

Thousands of years ago, humans didn’t have the resources to tell which spiders were poisonous and which ones were not. So we became cautious of all of them instinctively to avoid any danger.

In other words, it’s engraved into our DNA to fear our little eight-legged friends. So we classify spiders as dangerous subconsciously, even though it’s hard to come across a poisonous type nowadays.

However, it can be challenging to control your phobia when you see spiders, even if they are not particularly dangerous.

A woman from New York had such an experience when she was out driving on Silver Spur Road in the town of Cairo. She suddenly noticed an unwelcomed passenger.

The little spider jumped onto her seat, causing the woman to lose control of her car and drive off the road.

She had to call an ambulance

The woman crashed and injured her leg so severely that she had to call 911. When the authorities and rescue arrived, she admitted that the crash was due to a tiny spider.

The local police stated:

“After investigating today’s crash on Silver Spur Road, we feel it necessary to bring up a contributing factor that is not covered too often. We believe that the vehicle operator noticed a SPIDER in the driver’s area with her as she was driving.

“The operator panicked and crashed, suffering a leg injury from the crash. We know that it is easier for some drivers than others, but PLEASE try to teach new drivers and yourself to overcome the fear and pull over to a safe place. Lives depend on it.” they wrote on their Facebook page.
