Teacher gets furious when Kristen says she’s American, but the 7-year-old’s comeback is priceless

Laughing is one of the best things there is; I think we can all agree on that. You know that feeling when there’s this bubbly joy in your whole body, and you feel like you’re going to burst and double over laughing any second now.

This is something you often feel in situations where you’re not really supposed to laugh, such as being at work or in church. I read this story when I was in my dentist’s waiting room. Not exactly the proper place to let loose a big belly laugh, so I really had to fight to keep a straight face!

Here’s the story!

It takes place in an elementary school in Toronto, Canada. The female teacher is talking about what it means to be Canadian. They start discussing different nationalities.

The teacher says, “Alright, so everyone here who’s a Canadian, raise your hand!”

“I’m not a Canadian”

Their hands explode into the air like flashy fireworks.

There is, however, one exception. A girl named Kristen has not gone along with the crowd.
The teacher asks her, “So, Kristen, why didn’t you raise your hand?”

“Because I am not a Canadian.”

“Then”, asks the teacher, “What are you?”

“I’m a proud American,” boasts the little girl.

The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Kristen why she is an American.

“Well, my mom and dad are Americans, so I’m an American too.”

The teacher is now angry. “That’s no reason,” she says loudly. “What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?”

A pause, and a smile. “Then,” says Kristen, “I’d be a Canadian!”
