The postcard below comes from Germany, made by an organization called “The Anchor Buggy Company.”

At first, the company handed these postcards without knowing there was another picture hidden inside. But soon, more and more people started noticing something strange about the cards…

The artist behind the illustration was the American cartoonist William Ely Hill. Of course, he knew what he was doing, daring readers with the title  “My wife and my mother-in-law. They are both in this picture – find them”.

Thousands of fans

After months with no one succeeding, William continued his career as a cartoonist. But suddenly the picture started going viral, something really hard back when there was no internet, he soon gained thousands of fans.

His illusion depicts his wife looking away and his mother-in-law looking down.

This image was the first of its kind, as far as we know, and has survived the test of time, despite new illusions popping up every single day. Millions of people have watched William Ely Hill’s image, probably billions of times by now!
