Science confirms: Smelling your partner’s farts deepens the bond

Being in a good relationship is one of the best feelings in life. Having someone to hug, love, rely on, laugh and cry with is just priceless.

The longer the relationship goes, the more comfortable you get in each other’s company. Most couples can probably remember the first time their partner “let one rip” in front of them.

Although your SO’s gasses are probably not gonna smell like roses, it may be good for you to experience the unpleasant scent. It’s healthy – and can strengthen the relationship, reports the site Ideas to try.

Breaking wind is rarely something you do in front of people. Sure, you might do it in front of family and friends, but just as we learn society’s etiquette, you start doing it more and more in solitude. But is it really something to hide from your partner in life?

Strengthen the relationship – with farts

According to relationship expert Cynthia Powell, as a couple, you need to reach the point where you feel that you no longer need to put up an act in the company of your SO, that means doing things like farting in front of each other.

“Once couples get over the initial embarrassment of farting in front of a new partner, it seems to open up a whole new period of openness, honesty, and trust,” said Cynthia, according to Ideas to try.

So even though you may have to open the windows during movie nights, it might still be a good idea to pass wind.

Several health benefits

However, it is not only good to have a stronger relationship, but to fart in the presence of your partner can also have several health benefits.

The New York Post reported on the benefits of smelling your SO’s farts. Which include, among other things, lower risk of having heart attacks, strokes, cancer and dementia.
