50 German youngsters who were studying Dutch were the subject of the research. 25 students drank 50-centiliter strong beer and the other 25 drank alcohol-free. After that, they recorded themselves while trying to speak Dutch to the best of their ability, and finally, Dutch natives would listen to their conversation skills and rate them.

Must drink your fill

The end result showed that those who had the strong beer had an easier time speaking Dutch than those who had been drinking alcohol-free.

“It is important to point out that the participants took a small dose of alcohol,” said Dr. Fritz Renner, who was in charge of the Maastricht University study, according to the Swedish news site Aftonbladet.

In other words, it’s not a good idea to drink a lot of beer and think that you will get better and better, but at least I don’t have to think about why my Spanish becomes smoother after a beer or two while in Spain.
