Science confirms: Drinking wine with your girl friends could make you live longer

When was the last time you and your girlfriends got together to share a few glasses of wine and catch up? It may be time to set apart an evening in your busy calendar.

A new study shows that wine-tasting meetings with your girls can extend your life, according to the site New Idea Food.

Researchers carried out the study at Oxford University, and the results show that it’s good for your health to meet up with friends at least twice a week –  as it can extend your life.

Social interaction is vital

The study showed that social interaction not only prevents some mental disorders, it also helps with your physical health. People who were often in contact with their friends were healthier and recovered from injuries faster than those who didn’t.

“The key to maintaining strong friendships is to meet up twice a week and do stuff with the four people closest to you,” explained Dr. Robin Dunbar to the Huffington Post.

Handle stress better

The study showed that women, who indulge in some glasses of wine with friends regularly, have an easier time handling stress.

This is because the body secretes the substance oxytocin when we socialize with our friends, which makes us feel good. Oxytocin also lowers the body’s stress levels, which makes it a win-win situation – closer friends and less stress!

“This is also applicable to men, bonds can be formed through a range of activities from team sports to male banter — or simply having a pint with your pals on a Friday night,” said Robin Dunbar to the Huffington Post.
