# Almost everyone gets it wrong: Can you solve this tricky equation with basic math?

Solving riddles and puzzles is excellent brain exercise. It’s also fun to challenge your friends and find out who’s the most clever. The trick is to really think twice before giving your answer – these kinds of puzzles are designed to subvert your expectations!

Whenever I’m visiting my in-laws, they’re always solving crosswords and sudoku puzzles. They say they do it for an hour a day, and that it helps keep them sharp as they grow older. They’re still incredibly smart and active, so I guess it’s working!

I think we all want healthy minds and bodies – so this new puzzle trend is a real boon!

This is a really tricky math problem that I thought I had figured out – but I have to admit that I was wrong.

You’ve really got to think twice to solve this equation!

Look at the equation below and try to figure out the answer. You can solve it with basic math.

Have you got your answer? Okay, let’s walk this through step by step.

3 apples = 30.

10 + 10 + 10 = 30

Apple = 10!

Now we know that 1 apple equals 10.

10 + 4 + 4 = 18

So that means that banana = 4.

4 – 2 = 2

Coconut = 2

“Piece of cake,” I thought to myself.

2 + 10 + 4 = 16!

So 16 is the answer, right?!

THAT’S INCORRECT, IT’S NOT 16!

If you look closely, you can see that the last bunch of bananas only has 3 bananas instead of 4. That changes everything!

2 + 10 + 3 = 15

That’s got to be it, right?!

Nope, still incorrect!

If you look even closer, you’ll notice that the last row only has 1 coconut instead of 2.
