When life is stressful, it’s good to sit down and take a break. Taking some time off to breathe and calm yourself is quite beneficial – for me, the best way to clear my mind is sitting in a comfy spot and solving a few brainteasers.
It offers my brain a different stimulus than, for example, spending all day at work in front of a screen or watching TV at home. Exercising your mind is never bad, I have a hard time seeing a downside to solving mind puzzles.
Besides, it is fun to challenge yourself with different tests and challenges!
With the current COVID-19 situation, I have become quite a resourceful grandparent. Every Thursday, I make a big pot of coffee, and then sit down and call my grandkids through Skype or Facetime. We share a few puzzles that we found online with each other, which is a great bonding experience. It also satisfies our strong competitive instincts.
Such a fun way to get around the current situation. On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind being able to see them face to face again!
When I do some brainteasing on my own, I go for the classic crossword puzzles or sudoku from my local newspaper. Still, sometimes you come across a new challenge that is odd enough to make your brain work at full speed.
How many faces can you see?
Examples of this can be optical illusions, they are both exciting and confusing. Earlier this week, I found one I felt was pretty neat. I think the difficulty is at a reasonable level. Easy to start, but very difficult to fully solve.
The goal is to figure out how many faces hide inside the next picture.
Let’s start at once – how many faces can you find?
Yeah, this was a bit challenging, wasn’t it?
This illusion has generated many discussions online because people can’t reach an agreement on what the answer is.
I found 6 faces on my first try, but the most common answer – and according to several sites, the correct one – is 7 faces.
One of the things that many seem to miss is the face in the hair to the right.
