Lazy teenagers won’t clean their room – but mom has the perfect solution

Having a tidy and clean home feels like heaven during adulthood. However, as a teenager, it is the least of your worries. Clothes, trash, and dirty plates slowly fill the entire place, to your parents’ horror.

But what to do as a parent when your messy kids refuse to pick up after themselves? As you know, screaming at them has the opposite result. Also, constantly scolding a child is not healthy for anyone. But then, how do we get them to lend a hand at home?

A mother, Alice Velasquez, solved this life-long problem in an absolutely genius way!

When you are a teenager, you always feel more mature than you actually are. It happens to everyone. You want to hold the reins of your own life.

A creative solution

After Alice had asked her daughters to clean their rooms repeatedly, without any success whatsoever, she realized a more creative approach was required.

One day, when the children were at school, she put her new plan into action. She also chose to share her fantastic idea on social media.

“What do you do when you are DONE telling your teenage daughters to stop letting their room look like homeless people live there?

“You put everything (YES, EVERYTHING) into plastic bags, and you sell it back to them for $25 a bag (and they have to earn the money doing chores).”

Time to clean their room

The post continues:

“The best part? The bags were collected as they were found in the room—random! So their $25 could buy a bag of dirty clothes, it could buy a bag of trash, or it could buy their soccer gear.”

You can not help but respect this intelligent mom. Because what do you do when nothing else helps? You get creative!

I really hope her children learned the lesson and that they keep their rooms tidy in the future.
