If you had the chance to work fewer days during the week than you do now, would you take it? I personally would say yes in a heartbeat, even though I enjoy doing my job.
If your age is over 40 years old, it is recommended to reduce your working hours. According to a new study, you shouldn’t work more than three days a week.
The research, which aimed to study streamlined working hours, was conducted in Australia by economy experts.
Measuring stress levels
More than 6,000 people took part in the study. The conclusion that exactly three days is optimal came after analyzing the participants’ work habits and stress levels for an entire week.
Among other things, they had to read out loud and memorize several number combinations under time pressure.
A 25 hour week is ideal
After taking into account external factors such as quality of life, financial security, and family life, the researchers saw that a 25-hour working week would be the most effective.
After that, stress and fatigue reduced the participants’ productivity almost immediately.
“Work can be a double-edged sword, in that it can stimulate brain activity, but at the same time, long working hours and certain types of tasks can cause fatigue and stress which can potentially damage cognitive functions,” said economics professor Colin McKenzie who participated in the study.
Even though you might have to take the study with a pinch of salt, a 25-hour workweek sounds like a dream to me.
It would be great to get the chance of having a career without missing out on the good things in life!
